While I was on the plane to Chicago, I discover this passage again:

Thus says the Lord:
"Stand by the roads, and look, ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls."  Jeremiah 6:16

This simple passage is a reminder to those who first heard it, as well as to us, that we should "Ask for the ancient paths" – in other words, ask for wisdom! Truth be told, we too often forget to ask for God's insight. Or if we do ask for it, we ask quickly and flippantly not fully taking into account what it is that we are asking for. Proverbs tells us that wisdom is supreme above all things! I hope we never forget the magnitude of this request, or that we are invited to do this on a regular basis.

Re: Ask For The Ancient Paths

Couple that verse together with the verbs from Proverbs 2...incline your ear, cry for discernment, life your voice for understanding, seek her as for silver and search for her as for hidden treasures...and we are urged to doggedly pursue wisdom with tenacity and persistence. Wisdom is not something that naturally comes to you, it is something you must seek out and search for wholeheartedly. It implies therefore that wisdom comes from God alone. The Hebrew depicts a chasing after wisdom as if it was our absolute most important life-sustaining possession. The real-life application is that we need to daily and earnestly ask God for wisdom and look for Him to give to us generously (James 1:5)
